New at GUMC: Venturing Crew 1856 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Renee Strickland
On January 6, 2010 the Gainesville United Methodist Church Board of Directors signed the charter for a new Venturing Crew.  Venturing is a  BSA program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age.  Previous experience with scouting is not required.

Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.   The crew members plan and participate in High Adventure activities (camping, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking. scuba diving etc...)

If you are 14 to 20 years old, and interested in participating in this new group, this is their current meeting schedule:
Dates: second and fourth Wednesdays
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Gainesville United Methodist Church (second floor classroom)
(Meeting location is subject to change, please check GUMC calendar or Facebook.)

The Advisors/Committee members for this new crew have varied experiences working with local youth.  Several have been involved with local boy scout and girl scout troops as well as having one former UMC wilderness camp counselor.
Committee Members and Advisors: David Markley, Renee Strickland, Charles Thornburg, and Darlene Thornburg
